Weight Distribution Recommendation for 2023 Chevy Silverado 2500 Towing Toy Hauler

Updated 02/25/2025 | Published 02/21/2025

Question:

I have a 2023 Chevy 2500 LTZ crew cab standard bed 4x4 truck and am looking to get a toy hauler travel trailer. I would like some suggestions for hitches. The trailer I am looking to get has a gross weight rating of 11,514, pin weight of 1,314, and dry weight of 7,412. The motor that I load load in the cargo area in the back of the trailer is approximately 850lbs. I am looking at the Shocker hitches, but would like recommendations on weight distribution and sway control. Can you give me some insight of what is recommended?

Hey Dan, for a weight distribution system with sway control its tough to beat the Equal-i-zer systems like the part # EQ90-00-1600 which is the correct weight rating for your tow hauler. It is widely considered to be the best system around due to how well it works, how reliable it is, and how well it holds up over the years. This also comes with a shank that fits 2-1/2 inch hitches like what your 2023 Chevy Silverado 2500 should have as well.

Do you need help with picking out a Shocker hitch too?

Yes, I do. It seems like the shocker wd hitch is only rated to 12 tongue weight and my trailer is rated at slightly over 1300. I have also been looking at the B&W Continuum hitch as well.

@DanH The B and W Continuum part # BW28FR is a really cool system that I think you'd like as well. Unlike other systems it's not going to make a lot of noise which for some people can be a little jarring. If using the 2-5/16 inch ball of the Shocker part # SHK65VR it has a tongue weight capacity of 2,000 lb.
