Features to know about

Dial In the Perfect Balance Every Time: Built-In Tongue Weight Scale and App Guidance

Finding the right balance is key to safe, smooth towing, and this hitch makes it simple. The built-in scale shows your trailer’s tongue weight so you can confirm it’s in the 10–15% sweet spot of your gross towing weight. If it’s off, just open the Weigh Safe app, input your measurements, and it’ll tell you the distributed tongue weight to aim for. Then you adjust the lead screw until the scale matches that number. No more guessing or trial and error—just a perfectly balanced setup ready for the road.

Stay Steady Through Wind and Passing Semis: Built-In Sway Control with Trunnion Spring Bars

When the wind kicks up or big trucks blow by, you want your trailer to hold steady. The True Tow’s integrated sway control and trunnion spring bar system use tension and friction points to keep sway in check while maintaining smooth handling. It evens out the load across your axles and reduces steering strain so your trailer tracks straight without the white-knuckle moments.

Tow Heavy Loads with Confidence: 12,500 lbs GTW and 1,250 lbs Tongue Weight Capacity

Built from high-strength steel, this hitch is made for serious towing. It’s rated for a maximum gross towing weight of 12,500 lbs and a tongue weight of 1,250 lbs, and it uses a 2-5/16" stainless steel hitch ball that resists rust and corrosion. It’s certified to V5 and J684 safety standards, giving you the confidence that your setup can handle the job mile after mile.

Smooth Setup and Secure Connection: 2-1/2" Shank with 6" Drop and Keyed Hitch Lock

The adjustable shank fits 2-1/2" receivers and gives you up to 6" of drop or 7" of rise with 1-1/4" incremental height adjustments. That makes leveling your trailer quick and precise. The included hitch lock secures the shank to your vehicle so you can park or stop along the way without worry. Once it’s set, the system stays tight and stable through every turn and bump.

Relax on Long Drives: Quiet, Even Ride That Lets You Back Up Without Disconnecting

You don’t have to unhook or disable sway control when reversing or maneuvering in tight spaces. The hitch allows full backing without extra steps, making campground parking and tricky driveways a lot easier. Combined with its quiet operation and even weight distribution, it turns long drives into calm, controlled towing instead of a stressful chore.

This is the best weight distribution hitch. The instructions are very detailed plus the downloadable app makes it easy to dial in the proper weight distribution across the trailer and truck. After installing mine, both the camper and tow vehicle were perfectly level. The installation is a very doable DIY project.

The hardware and design look great. The issue is that it is dependent on a companion app. The app the manual says to download is incompatible with the current Android OS. The other available Weigh Safe app, won't take/use the "optional" weight distribution load ratings so that according to the app my F-150 with max tow package rated for 12000 lbs with 1220lb tongue wt rating when using a WDH. Weigh Safe customer support puts you on hold for 10 minutes and then punts you to voice mail. Hence the single star.

Very easy install. Item was received very quick. Have not towed with it yet. Will update after first two. Reno to San Francisco ( major mountains and curves)

We purchased it for a trip to Florida. Stopped right now at camping world to get a different sway bar. The weigh safe one was causing the trailer to sway all over the place. We followed the app, we reached out to weigh safe and did what they suggested. It has been a horrible trip driving with this sway bar. We even took the bars off after weigh safe said to try driving it without. We need to return the product. E trailer has been amazing, just this sway bar doesn’t like our truck and trailer.

Hey Rebecca. I'm sorry to hear that happened on your trip. In my experience with weight distribution, if there is not enough weight on the tongue and too much weight in the rear of the trailer, it can cause fish tailing. If you're hauling a toy hauler it can sometimes get tricky moving things around so that you're not too rear heavy to use the weight distribution. I can look more into this for you, just would need to know your tongue weight and trailer specifications. Let me know when you can :)

This is one of the nicest hitches that I have seen. It did a great job on our road trip and the piece of mind and confidence in the wind that it gave us was worth every penny.

by:

Great service as usual! Fast delivery!

by:

Not too difficult to install, directions are clear and the e trailer video is helpful. The app was a little problematic, but the website calculator works.

by:

I wanted to take a moment and share my experience. I had some delays with shipping of product and after speaking with the customer service team, it arrived onto time. If it was not for their hard work and dedication I would strained and not able to complete my trip! The service is the best in the business!

by:

A little challenging to install as a DIY. It’s important to have the right tools available. The hitch is a game saver. Just drove on the freeway through high winds. Our travel trailer pulled so easy. It was a much more relaxing drive.

by:

Everything came well packaged. Install was pretty easy just take your time. The app took some messing around to understand what they were looking for. I will find out shortly how it works towing on our trip.

by:

Excellent Quality! Box arrived in perfect condition (thanks, UPS!). The inside packaging was very neat and was in perfect condition. Great instructions, great App. Seems like an excellent product so far. I haven't made a two with it yet, but will update soon after. I'm anticipating greatness!

16 F250 towing 24' encl trailer. So far 1500 miles towing has been great. Nearly zero porpoising or sway. Set up seemed difficult from the videos and instructions but was actually a breeze. Was very quick and easy. W the f250 4x4 you probably only need 4" drop as the 6" is pretty low. Although my TT has a ton of clearance so you may need the rise w those as the 250 hitch only sits at 19" i also have a curt trutrack 4p which is very heavy to place on the receiver. The WS feels way lighter but maybe it's just the way its balanced. Also like that you can make adjustments easier w the WS vs the curt. The min torque on the WS is 150ft lb which everyone has a trq wrench for that, do yourself a favor and put more torque as it'll need it. Nothing w WS its just what happens w movement.

  • Weigh Safe True Tow Weight Distribution System For 7,600 Pound Trailer
Hi James! With your GVWR being 7,600 pounds, your loaded tongue weight should be around 760 pounds. With that said, I recommend going with the Weigh Safe True Tow Weight Distribution Hitch - 2" Shank - 6" Drop - 8.5K GTW, 850 lbs TW # WS79VR. The Weigh Safe # WS59MR you were looking at has 12,500 pounds towing and 1,250 pounds of tongue weight capacity and would be too heavy duty for your trailer. You want your loaded tongue weight to fall as close to the middle of the system's capacities...

  • Weight Distribution Recommendation for 2026 Forest River Greywolf 29te
Hey Tim, we do have other options as well that fit the 2.5 inch hitch size like with the Weigh Safe True Tow part # WS59MR which your tongue weight would work great with and comes with a shank that can do a drop of up to 6 inches. This also has a tongue weight scale built into it as well which is nice. This would be what I would go with if I were you unless you needed a lot more drop from the shank.

  • Recommended Weight Distribution System w/a 2-1/2" Shank for a Trailer w/a 1,100 lbs Tongue Weight
It sure would David! So long as your F-250 has a 2-1/2" hitch the Weigh Safe True Tow Weight Distribution Hitch item # WS59MR will work great. This system is going to be perfect for a 900 lbs - 1,100 lbs tongue weight and the built in scale will help you play around with how you load your trailer. So long as you stay under 1,250 lbs on the tongue weight you'll be good and at the same time not feel stiff or overrated. The Weigh Safe True Tow Weight Distribution Hitch item # WS59MR has built...

  • What Weight Safe Weight Distribution to Use for 11,300 lbs GVWR Trailer
Hey Vernon, great to hear from you again! For your trailer that has a GVWR of 11,295 lbs I actually recommend stepping up one level and going with the 18.5K # WS49MR which has the same 6" drop and fits a 2-1/2" hitch receiver like the 12.5K # WS59MR you were looking at. Here's why: Wight distribution systems (WDS) are designed to help with tongue weight (TW) so, contrary to popular belief, you'll actually choose a WDS based off of your TW as opposed to the GVWR. Since a properly loaded...

  • Solution to Allow Weigh Safe True Tow WDH to Clear Tailgate
Hey Forest! You aren't going to get the clearance you need from moving to the Heavyweight. Even if you did, that system is going to be overrated so you wouldn't want to use it with your trailer. You're better off sticking with the Middleweight # WS94RR (2" shank) or # WS59MR (2-1/2" shank). All of their shanks are the same length and you can't use shanks from other systems so that is out of the question. An extender isn't going to work well either and it will cut your tongue weight capacity...

  • What Weight Distribution Hitch do I Want, My Lightest Trailer is 10,000 Pounds Total Weight?
Hello Danny, I’m really glad you mentioned the Equalizer! When sway is the issue, that one and the Weigh Safe are definitely my go-to options. They both have 4 point sway control, with straight spring bars and frame brackets. They can be a little noisier than the chain style setups, but that’s because they’re actually creating the friction that reduces sway. You mentioned your lightest trailer is 10K. When it’s loaded, you want your tongue weight to be 10 to 15 percent of your total trailer...

  • Availability of 2" Ball for Weigh Safe True Tow
Hey Edgardo! The Weigh Safe True Tow Weight Distribution Hitch # WS59MR comes with a 2-5/16" ball by default. Although there isn't a version with the 2" ball, you can swap it out using the Replacement 2" Hitch Ball for Weigh Safe Ball Mounts # WS96KR. Just be aware that the ball will be the limiting factor of the hitch since it is rated for 10,000 lbs. The True Tow is a great choice and will serve you well with the built-in scale and simple adjustment. This allows you to set it perfectly...

  • Recommended Weigh Safe True Tow Weight Distribution Hitch for a 2-1/2" Hitch Receiver
Hey Mike. It looks like you went with the Weigh Safe True Tow Weight Distribution Hitch item # WS59MR. This system works with trailers that have tongue weights up to 1,250 lbs. You really want to select a weight distribution hitch off of your trailer's tongue weight, which would be 10%-15% of it's total loaded weight. So long as you're at or under 1,250 lbs this system will work great for you. The Weigh Safe item # WS59MR comes with a shank that fits a 2-1/2" hitch receiver. It has a...

  • Which Weigh Safe Weight Distribution System for Rockwood 2616BH Ultra Light
Hey Karl, yes the Weigh Safe weight distribution system part # WS59MR that you referenced would be a great option as it fits your hitch size of 2. 5 inch and also has the correct weight rating for the Rockwood you plan on getting. This can do a drop of up to 6 inches as well which would easily allow you to tow your trailer level.

  • Weigh Safe Weight Distribution Hitch Installation Near Houston Texas
Hi Richard, I completely understand wanting to have a weight distribution system installed by someone. I did some checking around your area and one place that looks like a solid option is Texas Customs in Bryan, Texas. They specialize in RV service and repair and mention doing things like braking systems and flat tow setups, so installing and setting up a weight distribution hitch should be well within what they handle. Since they are fairly close to the 77845 area, they may be a good...

  • What Size Drop On Weigh Safe True Tow
Hey Dee Ann! I'm assuming you're asking about the drop you need for the shank. The Weigh Safe True Tow # WS59MR with a 6" drop/7" rise is appropriate for your application. This fits a 2-1/2" receiver and has the 12.5K GTW/1.2K TW rating you're looking for. You won't be using the drop or rise, you can just keep it at the highest setting for a 0" rise/drop since your receiver and coupler are at the same height. With the spring bars engaged and the system dialed in you will be towing level....

  • What Should I get to Improve Towing My Hideout Camper with My 2023 F-150 XLT?
Hello George, Thanks for writing in! I took a look at your Hideout 242LHS and saw it has a GVWR right around 7,650 lbs. When you get it loaded up for a trip, you’ll want your tongue weight to fall in that 10–15% range, which puts you roughly between 765 lbs and about 1,150 lbs. Staying in that range is key for improving ride quality, reducing sway, and keeping your 2023 F-150 sitting level while towing. When picking out the correct weight distribution system, it’s important to focus...
