Recommended Hitch for a 2024 Toyota Corolla Cross

Updated 10/30/2025 | Published 02/11/2025

Question:

This Draw-tite and the Curt Trailer hitches for the Corolla Cross only bolt into the body at very light 22 ft-lbf. The Toyota factory hitch though utilizes frame brackets and gets torqued down to 88 ft-lbf. Should this stark installation difference be a concern when comparing these hitch options? Also, wouldnt the 1,500 lb towing capacity Toyota states for the Corolla Cross be intended based off the stronger factory frame mounted hitch, not a weaker body mounted installation? Im worried with the already low capacity of the Corolla Cross, a weaker hitch installation will only lower the already very low effective tow/tongue weight capacity.

I do not have any information on the factory hitch for the 2024 Toyota Corolla Cross John so I can not speak to the discrepancies on the torque specs. What I can tell you is that both the Draw-Tite item # DT28GR and Curt item # C64DR hitches have been tested by their respective manufacturer's and been installed on Toyota Cross's since the 2022 model year. They each have been designed to have a 2,000 lbs capacity but you are limited to the 1,500 lbs one that Toyota states the 2024 Cross is rated for.

I have linked an installation video below so you can see how to get this hitch set up.

Since you are planning on towing you will also need a wiring harness item # C39DR if you do not have LEDs or item # C55ZV if you do have LEDs and a ball mount kit item # C45534.

Hey John, how did things go with the Draw-Tite hitch on your Corolla Cross after checking out the installation video? It’d be great to hear if the setup felt solid once everything was torqued down. Your update could make it easier for others comparing these hitch options.
