Should I Put a 7-Way Blade or Round in Place of 6-Way

Updated 02/10/2025 | Published 02/05/2025

Question:

Hello, I am in the process of buying a trailer that has a 6 way round connector. I need to either wire it convert it to a 7 way round or 7 way blade connector. Can you assist me in this?

Hey Nick, since the 7-way blade is a lot more popular than the 7-way round I would definitely recommend going with a 7-way flat. For that we have the part # e99011 which comes with a junction box to make installing on your trailer as easy as possible. What does your tow vehicle have on it?

The tow vehicle has both round and flat. The trailer is going behind my service truck. The trailer plug would just have to be rewired, not the entire trailer correct?

@Nick Yes this is correct. You just need to wire the new connector to the existing wiring once you remove the old connector.

@JamesonC Thanks for the advice. Is it as simple as cutting the plug and inserting it in the new junction box? Or is there a crossover wiring diagram I could use to rewire the plug end?

@Nick I wish it was as simple as plugging the old harness into the junction box but you will need to determine the functions of the wiring of your harness after you remove the old connector and then run the wires to the labeled terminals in the junction box. If I could attach a picture to this message that had a diagram I would but instead best I can do is have you check out the attached link to see various connector wiring diagrams.
