Hi, everybody. Andy here with etrailer.com. And today, we're gonna take a brief look at this CURT seven-way trailer plug extension. This 20 inch long wiring extension is designed for use with your CURT Echo in-line brake controller, allowing for easier positioning and installation. This is a simple plug and play design, which is going to eliminate the need for cutting or splicing, which is great. One end of this wiring harness plugs into your vehicle's OEM socket and the other end is going to plug into your seven-way connector or your Echo in-line harness.
The slit loom is going to keep wires contained and protected and you're gonna get some cable ties to help with any slack that you might have in your wiring, and an installation instruction sheet, which will guide you step by step through the very simple installation process. Perfect fix for my trailer light harness! We rrplaced the “cheap” plastic bumper on our 2022 Toyota Tacoma with a steel Body Armor bumper. The last thing to hook up was the harness for towing trailers. Although the standard issue harness that came with the truck was fine for the standard issue bumper, it was 3” short to hook up!! Googling fixes found this part with this company! Easy-Peasy fix. Plug one end into the harness the other end into the end that mounts on the bumper. The product was shipped the day after I ordered it. You can see on their website when and who picks it off the shelf snd packs it and when it ships. My only complaint was the slow moving through USPS’s pipeline. No fault of this company, though.

I replaced the factory bumper on my Tacoma with a steel bumper. Unfortunately, the new bumper had the trailer plug connector in a different location and the factory wiring wouldn't reach. I was pretty sure from the pictures that this would extend the connection and it worked perfectly. I was not looking forward to getting into the wiring on the truck and extend that way.

I checked out the fit on my 2017 Tacoma and it's perfect. I unplugged the OEM harness from the bumper mounted trailer receptacle and was able to plug the extender cable into the trailer receptacle and in turn plug the OEM harness into the extender cable. Note that the Curt item sent was not the C86DR but rather the Curt 56475. Still seemed to work OK. Must be an updated part.
This is exactly the product we needed. Going over a big bump in the road would sometimes snap off the brake controller. Now the controller is out of harm's way. And if the extension gets damaged, it's way cheaper than a new controller.
Got what I asked for, at time of ordering didn't know there was an adapter plug harness. Usually I just splice the new one. made my life easier.
Worked perfectly for my 2026 Ford F350. Installed a utility box and needed a little extra length. The 20" was just the ticket. I did have to pull out the blue insert on the truck side to install.
This does not connect to my Toyota 7 pin or the connector on my trailer! HELP! I need a 20”extender

Hey John, here to help! Part # C86DR that was ordered doesn't plug into the trailer plug on the vehicle or trailer. This would plug into the factory plug and then go into the plug on the back of the 7-way to extend that wiring. I have included a link to a video so it helps clear up what I'm trying to explain. If you are needing an extension between the truck and the trailer you could use part # TLW6024.
ZERO STARS. Great build quality doesn’t matter if the ends won’t mate up. The side with the blue interior is the factory harness. The other is the one purchased from Etrailer/Curt. The triangle that should fit into the void of the factory harness for alignment, it’s way too big. Does not even come close. This WILL NOT work on the 2022 Ford F250. I have had nothing but trouble with orders I have placed with etrailer.

Hey Patrick, I am happy to help. That blue insert in your factory wiring is not supposed to be on that side of the plug. That piece should have stayed in the receptacle that you pulled the plug out of. Take some needle nose pliers and pull that blue piece out and put it back in the vehicle side plug. Then the curt and factory plugs will mate. I hope that wasn't confusing. It is not easy to explain over text! Let me know if you figured it out.
