Updated 02/20/2025 | Published 02/05/2025

What is the ball - looking thing on the back of the tankless hot water heater? Ours is broken and a technician is saying it isnt necesssry. Is the part available anywhere? If so, where?

Hello Judi, thanks for reaching out. When you say "ball looking thing" are you referring to the part circled in the picture below? If so, this is the vortex mixing chamber. This is where hot and cold water mix to give you the right temperature of water. It is a necessary part of the water heater, so I am really not sure where your "tech" got that idea from. Sadly though, the vortex chamber is not a part we sell separately. If your water heater is no longer under warranty (2 years) it will be time for a new one.

How long have you had your water heater? What exactly happened to your vortex chamber?

Feel free to reach out and reply below if there is anything else I can do.

Thanks Jesse. I finally called Furrion and they said they had it as a replaceable part. It's in the mail to us as we speak. We'll see if we actually get the right thing. I'll post back here if we do. Cross your fingers!

@JudiE Oh nice! We just don't sell a lot of replacement parts for these water heaters, but I am glad to hear you were able to find one. Do let me know how it goes, or if there is anything else I can do to help.

@JesseM I said I'd let you know about the part for our tankless water heater. Well, as I said, we contacted Furrion directly and with the model number, they were able to provide a replacement part. It took my husband about 30 minutes to install and today, I took an "endless" hot shower, followed by my husband and then, my daughter - all without having to ration water. My suggestion would be to tell those asking you about parts you typically don't carry, to contact the manufacturer directly to see if they carry the part. Doing this was the difference between a 78 dollar part, including shipping and an 800 dollar new unit. We didn't even need the tech who said we didn't need the needed part to reattach the new part as we were able to do it ourselves. A hot shower on a cold day: priceless!

@Judie Awesome! Thanks for taking the time to share. I will definitely keep this in mind going forward. And I am glad to hear you got it sorted. Any idea what happened to the original vortex chamber? Did something start leaking? How did you know it needed to be replaced? I am just curious because we don't typically hear about these going bad. As always feel free to come back if there is anything else I can help with.
