What Equal-i-zer Shank is Closest to Curt 17132 Shank Size?

Updated 11/03/2025 | Published 01/26/2025

Question:

Is there anything between the Equal-I-zer EQ34FR and the Equal-I-zer EQ94FR? And is the hitch a true 2.5”? I recently purchased the Curt 17132 and the height is perfect but the quality control is horrible. The hitch is 2.46” wide so there’s a lot more slop than if they were to make it to spec.

Hey Aaron, thanks for reaching out!

The Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution Shank # EQ94FR will be your best bet since it has a 9" drop compared to the 9-1/4" drop from your Curt Shank # C17132.

If you can let me know what exact amount of drop you're needing I can check and see if we have any that are closer to what you're needing.

The slop you're seeing is normal for all things towing. Hitch receiver and ball mount manufacturers know that there are tolerances on both sides of the equation so both ends are a "true" 2-1/2". If it were then it would be really hard to get the ball mount/weight distribution shank to fit because of the powder coat paint on everything.

Hey Aaron, did you end up finding a shank that matched the drop you needed for your setup? Once you dialed in the right height, did the fit feel more solid than with the Curt shank? Your update could make it easier for the next person comparing these options.
