Could Unused Lower Section of Weight Distribution Shank be Cut off

Question:
Can I cut the excess off of my WD shank? The Reese 49912 RE94FR came with a 12 1/2inch shank. With the ball even with the receiver, no , The excess shank interferes with ground clearance and safety chain movement when turning.

Yes if you wanted to cut off the bottom of the shank of your Reese weight distribution system part # RE94FR that isn't getting used it would have no affect on the higher holes of the shank that are currently being used.

Could I do the same thing to by bulletproof drop hitch . It’s way to close to the ground and would like to shorten it a couple of inches. But I don’t want to weaken the drop. Thanks
