Weight Distribution Recommendation for 2011 KZ Hybrid Camper

Updated 01/27/2025 | Published 01/23/2025

Question:

First, thank you for your help. I recently purchased a used 2011 KZ hybrid camper 16 feet with a GVWR of 2,700 pounds. I will pull it with a 2005 Honda Odyssey having a tow rating capacity of 3,500 pounds. The prior owner used it for a number of years without a WDH and sway control saying he had no problem. But, he towed it with a Ford Flex having a tow capacity of 4,500 pounds. Anyway, I want to be safe and see that you recommend the EQ37040ET tow and sway hitch for an an individual with a minivan. However, the approximate $900 cost is far outside of my budget and I ask if you are aware of an alternaive weight distribution/sway hitch that will work for me. I know we do not want to cheap outinch on safety, but reality is reality and I need something that costs less. How much less? Well, I do not want to put your response in a corner, but the lower the better. Again, thank you for your help.

Hey Sal, I have just what you are looking for with the Reese Pro Bar part # RE34FR. This is a much lower cost option for a weight distribution system that will work great for you. It has sway control built into the system as well. Would this fit your budget better?
