Weight Distribution Recommendation for 2021 Little Guy Mini Max

Updated 06/26/2025 | Published 06/22/2025

Question:

We have a 2021 Little Guy Mini Max with a GVWR of 2900 lbs 1993 lbs dry weight. Our towing vehicle is a 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander with a towing capacity of 5000 lbs. Were looking for a weight distribution kit bars and sway control suitable for us. What would you recommend? We would preferably like one we dont have to detach when we back up.

Hey Peter, the Reese Pro Bar part # RE34FR would work great for your 2021 Little Guy Mini Max and your Grand Highlander. This has the proper tongue weight rating for your trailer and as long as you are backing up mostly straight you can leave the bars connected. This is the case for basically all WD systems. What is it like towing the trailer currently?

I neglected to answer your question. Currently we feel sway occasionally especially when driving on curvy highways, especially when trucks are passing. We would like to reduce this swaying.

@PeterS I see, yeah a WD system is going to help with that so you are on the right track.

Thanks again for your replies. In looking at some of the reviews for the Reese Pro Bar you recommended, it looks terribly heavy to manage. What about the anderson weight distribution and sway "bar" system as an alternative? It is considerably more pricy, but would you recommend for our car and rv?

@PeterS For lighter applications the Andersen system isn't terrible but it just don't do quite as good of a job as an actual weight distribution system with spring bars. That said there really isn't a way to get away from the weight of a WD system. If basically you just want a little sway control here and there the best option is the Curt True Course part # C94VV. This installs on the trailer and when it senses the trailer swaying it will lightly apply the trailer brakes to pull the trailer tight and stop the sway.
