Hey Terry, thanks for reaching out. For the Optronics # STL17RB and # STL16RB tail lights 16 gauge wire is what I would use. For the brakes you will want to use at least 12 gauge wire. If it is a shorter trailer you can get away with 12 gauge, for longer trailers say 20' or longer you may want to up that to 10-gauge. We sell this wire by the foot if you need some. Take a look at the following:
- Deka Jacketed 2 Wire, 10 Gauge, Brake Wire - per Foot # 10-2-1
- Jacketed 2 Wire (Brake Wire) - 12 Gauge - per Foot # 12-2-1
- Deka Wire - Jacketed 4-Wire - 16/4 Gauge - per Foot # DW03240-1
I hope this helps and let me know if you need anything else.

Hey Terry, how did the wiring go for your trailer lights and brakes? I'm curious if the 16-gauge and 12-gauge wire setup worked well for your layout. Your update could make it easier for others working on similar trailer wiring.
