Can I Get the Mounting Hardware Through the Side of the Frame Instead of Making Middle Hole Bigger?

Updated 11/17/2025 | Published 12/11/2024

Question:

I have a 2023 Mazda CX-30 Turbo. In the EcoHitch installation video, a hole on the side of the frame rail is used to get the mounting hardware into the frame rail. Can this hole be also be used as access for the Curt mounting hardware to avoid having to enlarge one of the holes in the bottom of the frame rail?

Hello Peter,

Yes, you can most definitely use the holes on the side of the frame instead of making that center hole larger to get the hardware through for the Curt # C49CR. Our installers try to follow the manufacturers instructions, looks like EcoHitch had a better way.

Hey Peter, how did things go using the side frame holes for the Curt hitch on your CX-30? It’d be great to hear if that method made the process smoother. Your update could make it easier for others working on the same setup.

@KateF Unfortunately, the holes on the side were slightly too small for the Curt hardware so I ended up just following the directions. Dropping the exhaust made access much easier and wasn't as difficult as I thought it would be.

@Peter Thanks for the response Peter! Glad to hear that lowering the exhaust was easier than you thought =)
