Do Hub/Rotors of Hydrastar Disc Brake Kit Stick Out Further Than Hub Drums
Updated 11/17/2025 | Published 12/04/2024 >
Question:
Hi All, Im considering converting to this brake system. I have Dexter D52 axles with brakes that will not stop my enclosed car trailer, even at 10 on my controller, and its caused me several white knuckle instances. My trailer is always at 9500 lbs loaded going to the track. My question however is: I was told these disc brake conversions set the wheels out further than the drums have them now. Is this true? Is there any offset difference when installed? And: Im running 15inch wheels. Will there be any clearance issues with this size rim? Thank you in advance, Kurt

Hey Kurt, the hub/rotors that come with the Hydrastar Disc Brake Kit w/ Actuator for Tandem Axle Trailers # HYD74VR that you referenced do not stick out any further than the hub/drums you have now. These also easily fit behind 15 inch wheels as well so this kit will fit well and drastically improve your trailer's stopping power.
