Do the Hydrastar Disc Brake Kits Include Kodiak Brakes?

Updated 11/03/2025 | Published 01/14/2025

Question:

To whom: I have installed Kodiak disc brakes in the past on our toyhauler, but am now interested in the Hydrastar Disc brake kit for our current camper. The kit is many dollars cheaper than individually buying components. The current camper is an Outdoors RV 22FQS a 26foot 8000 lb. trailer with dual 5200 lb. axles. My question is: who manufacturers the Hydrastar brand brake calipers and rotors? Is this Kodiak brakes kitted with the Hydrastar pump? Are the disc brake pads common off the shelf pads like Kodiak uses? Just like to know who makes the brakes that lives depend on. Thanks

Hey Richard! Hydrastar manufactures their own brake calipers and rotors. Kodiak is made by Dexter so the item # HYD74VR kit is not mixed and matched amongst the two companies products. All of the kits use standard ceramic brake pads.

The Hydrastar Disc Brake Kit w/ Actuator for Tandem Axle Trailers item # HYD74VR is designed for 6,000 lbs axles. The hubs are 12" and have a 6 on 5-1/2" bolt pattern. I recommend checking your Timber Ridge's bearing sizes before purchasing to confirm fitment. This kit uses a inner bearing item # 25580 and outer bearing item # 15123.

Hey Richard, did you get a chance to check your Timber Ridge’s bearing sizes to see if the Hydrastar disc brake kit fits? Knowing how that match-up went could help others looking at the same setup. Your update could make it easier for the next person with similar axles.
