Recommended Solar Kit for to Keep Batteries Charged While In Storage

Updated 11/17/2025 | Published 12/01/2024

Question:

Greetings. We have a 2018 Jayco Northpoint 318 RLTS fifth wheel camper with a 2000w inverter which powers the residential fridge and 4 outlets. It may also power one of the two a/c units but I am unsure about that. The coach has six - 80aH lead acid batteries for a total of 480aH. I am tired of having to remove the batteries from the coach each winter when we store the unit usually for 3-4 months. Would this kit 34282181 provide enough of a charge to maintain the batteries so that we can leave them in the coach? Thanks for your help Dave and Patti

Dave, it is strongly recommended to remove the batteries when storing your RV for the winter, but i understand the pain behind it so a kit like the Go Power Overlander Solar Charging System with Digital Solar Controller # 34282181 will be more than enough to keep your batteries charged while in storage.

This kit includes a 200 watt solar panel, a 30 amp PWM controller, and includes the MC4 cables and installation hardware.

Hey Dave and Patti, how did things go with the Go Power Overlander solar kit on your Jayco during storage? Did it keep your batteries charged the way you hoped? Your update could make it easier for others looking to maintain their RV batteries over winter.
