Video Transcript for The Low-Down on the Pole-Tongue Adapter for Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution Systems

Today we're going to take a look at the pole tongue adapter for the Equal-i-zer weight distribution system. It has a 14,000-pound gross towing weight capacity and a 1400-pound tongue weight capacity. Now this part will let you mount your Equal-i-zer weight distribution system on your straight-tongue trailer. Basically when you install a weight distribution system to your trailer, the spring bars of the weight distribution system are attached to brackets that will mount to the sides of your trailer frame. So it works well when using an A-frame trailer because the trailer frame is at the correct angle to accept the spring bar mounting brackets, but it does not work so well when you're using a straight pole tongue trailer where the tongue is the only portion of the trailer that extends out. So this adapter here can be attached to that trailer's tongue, and it provides the properly spaced mounting points for the sway-control brackets of your system. This can also be used with the Fastway e2 weight distribution systems.

This part is made in the USA. Again, the gross towing weight capacity is 14,000 pounds. Maximum tongue weight capacity is 1400 pounds. Now, when you do position this on your trailer tongue, you do want it to be about 27-32 inches back from the hitch ball, and you can see the brackets down here. It is designed to fit tongue widths from one inch to five inches and there's elongated holes up here that the bolts go through, so it can go as small as from one inch tongue width or you can extend it out. When you take that bolt out you can slide it all the way out and go all the way up to a five-inch-wide tongue width.

So you just set it to what tongue width you need and then tighten it down. Then on the side of the bracket you can see there's a range of holes here, so you can fit different tongue heights anywhere from two inches, three inches, four inches, or five-inch tongue height. Again, once you get it to the right position that goes around your pole tongue and then just put your bolt in the correct position, put the nut on it, and tighten it down. Again, if I tilt this a little you'll see how at the end of the bracket they're angled and you have your bolts here. This is what those sway-control brackets will mount to and give you the connection point for the spring bars.Overall width on this at the very widest point, the very back here, is going to be right at 21-1/2 inches overall width. It does come with a nice set of detailed instructions that are described and show how you install this and how it connects to your weight distribution system. But that should do it for the review on the pole tongue adapter for the Equal-i-zer weight distribution systems.

This has a 14,000-pound gross towing weight capacity and a 1400-pound tongue weight capacity..

The device helps control my trailer sway issue which is what I bought it fir. While I am satisfied with the overall performance, I have a couple of comments. Because most pole tongue trailers are aluminum and the adapter is steel, I inserted a thin plastic sheet wherever the two dissimilar metals touched. This makes the bolts difficult to keep tight with the vibration of the lift bars and the flex of aluminum trailer. I had to run a bolt through the tongue (used stainless for this). Also I have to routinely check and tighten the bolts on the oblong holes on top. May actually weld them in place. There should be a solution to all this that makes installation and maintenance easier. I have had lots of interest and questions about the device and have to tell the good and the bad.
In general it is a good idea and will serve me well. Pole tongue trailers are not without swaying problems no matter what the dealers tell you. I have pulled a lot of trailers and was prepared to sell this one until I fixed the issue with your bracket.

Most aluminum trailer manufacturers do not recommend using a weight distribution system so that would be something to check on before using the system. If it turns out you can use a weight distribution system, I recommend to use a thinner piece of vinyl between the steel adapter and the aluminum trailer. The shim you are using looks to be too thick and is causing the bolts to loosen.

This is an excellent profuct that unfortunately doest ship with the best of instructions which cost the review a star … fortunately etrailer had a video to review

I don’t know if you really want to hear from me. When I called to place my order the great expertise you advertise was not there. I was simply asked what do you want and so I picked this pole tongue adapter. Once this adapter was installed and the boat/ trailer driven around the block it was very apparent it would not work because by its design it came loose and was useless. When I contacted e-trailer I was told, too bad, you already installed it so you can’t get your money back and it won’t work with the distribution hitch I ordered. Why was I not told this when I was ordering? I have designed my own fix but am not happy with etrailer’s performance.

Thank you for leaving a review! This adaptor is not meant to be used with other systems. If you notice in the description it is stated that this should be used with the Equal i zer weight distribution systems.

Good product and easy to install. Would recommend that the verbiage in the installation steps are bulletized with only one step per bullet. This allows the installer to check steps off when complete and ensures a step isn't missed because the words are lost in a long paragraph.

Performance is good but the product is rusted all over.

The pole tongue adapter and Fastway E2 hitch work great together. Instructions are straight forward and easy to follow. I put it together following the basic setup and it didn't need much adjustment. I could recommend this setup for anyone. Our ice castle has a hydralic frame which you can use to hook the spring bars up. It greatly improved the ride, steering and handling of the rig. I also have a set of Air Lift 1000 in the rear (previously ordered from etrailer). They work great in conjunction with this hitch. And further add adjustability to the setup.

by:

Be careful - I ordered with a Reece equalizer hitch and it did not work with that so am sending that back to get an Equalizer brand hitch that it should work with - of course I will be out the cost of shipping which will not be cheap considering the weight of the equalizer hitch - a risk of ordering such a heavy item on line. Had to go to the hardware store to buy a bolt 1/2" longer to make it work on my boat hitch. I like that it does fit well between the spare tire mount and jack on my hitch. Have yet to receive the correct load equalizer hitch ("Equalizer" brand) so do not yet know how it will work with that.

by:

eTrailer is awesome. This product not so much. I bolted it onto my pole trailer with the torque specified in the manual ( no small feat, but that’s another story). The part did not stay in place, but worked it’s way forward to the point that I couldn’t lower my trailer jack to disengage the trailer from my tow vehicle when I arrived at my destination, so I had to use my vehicle jack to lift the trailer to release the equalizer torsion bars. This was a PITA. To be effective, this part really needs to be welded to the trailer tongue.

by:

The adapter I purchaced for my equalizer hitch arrived in just three days. I am completely satisfied with the excellent service. I can now look forward towing my new boat safely.

The adapter worked perfectly. I highly recommend this product. It is easy to set up and adjust. All part are made very sturdy.

by:

Worked as I hoped. Used it on an aluminum I-beam boat trailer. I-beams covered the pole tounge. I drilled the outsides of the I-beams and through bolted the adapter on. The bolt slots in the adapter alow a lot of range in where u can put the bolts. PS etrailer videos are very helpful. Equalizer customer service was outstanding. Really helped with this unconventional install.

by:

I purchased the equalizer pole tongue adaptor to attach to my 25' boat trailer enabling the ability to tow behind my F450 with 12' camper. I also purchased the equalizer hitch system.. Can't wait to get it all hooked up and try it out. Great product, quick delivery!

Gladly write a review I Love etrailer.com . I already took a picture of my new goodies and mentioned etrailer.com my my ICOG Facebook page . Ice castle owners group is over 12k members all towing and hauling all year round .. I think most of use buy from you already but there’s always new members joining and asking question . I say just go to etrailer they got everything you need and a few things you never knew about .

The Equal-i-zer weight distribution hitch arrived 2 days after ordering it. Was easy to install and the directions answered all my question. The hitch works as advertised. Installed on a 29 ft. Enclosed trailer.

I recently purchased a pontoon boat with a pole tongue which made it impossible to use standard anti-sway bars. So I immediately went to another website, but they weren't able to deliver in time for when I needed it to pick the boat up. E-Trailer was able to deliver the adapter in 2 days. I know pulling the pontoon 400 miles would have been difficult without it. Thanks much.

by:

Very easy installation. Solidly built. Have not used it with the equalizer hitch setup yet but I expect it will work
great.

by:

I bought this to use on a boat trailer. It works very well and does not diminish the surge brake significantly.

by:

The bar itself seems very sturdy. Shipping was fast. Install was easy. I gave this a 2 star rating because the bolts included were way to short. I had to go out and purchase the proper length bolts. I spent an additional $23 dollar on top of what I paid for the adapter.

by:

Worked well for my pontoon boat

by:

Just what Ineeded for my boat trailer which has a straight tonque and would not accept a conventional WD hitch

by:

Great service. Forgot to order a part and called up and they added it no problem. Product arrived on time. Highly recommend etrailer.com for any trailer needs!

by:

Excellent - Works great and etrailer is a excellent company to deal with. Appreciate the customer service!!

by:

Great prices , shipped fast , exactly what I needed to hook up my equalizer hitch to my boat trailer .

by:

This is one of many items that I have ordered and received from etrailer.com. All items have been received quickly and as ordered. A real pleasure to do conduct business with!

by:

Works great. Fit on my Ice Castle tongue perfectly. 4 star rating because it does tend to come loose.

by:

Shipped in a timely manner. Product was as described. It there was anything else I would have liked a short sheet would have been nice. The product looks to be pretty simple to install so it should be fine.

  • Weight and Sway Distribution Hitch For 2013 Camplite Trailer And Aluminum Frame
Due to the front section of your trailer A-frame you will need to use a Pole-Tongue Adapter # EQ95-01-5950 that needs to be mounted between 27-32" back from the hitch ball center.
