What Can I Do If The Head Of My Demco Autoslide Hitch Is Out Of Alignment?
Updated 11/12/2024 | Published 11/10/2024 >
Question:
Recently, less than 2 months ago, I bought a 2018 Jayco Eagle HT 5th wheel and a Demco auto slide for my 2021 Ram 2500. The installers of the hitch greased everything for me. Since my first tow, the slide does not line up straight with my truck forcing me to hitch at an angle. An Rv dealer fixed this for my drive from AR to Phoenix. Once again, the slide has gotten out of alignment. Need help on the cause and how to fix this myself. My photo would not upload.

Hello Paul, thanks for reaching out. We actually get this complaint about the Demco Autoslide from time to time. If you unhook at an angle, the head unit will be stuck at that angle, and it can make hooking back up a nightmare. The only way to turn the head back into position is when you are connected to the camper. There is really no easy way to do it by yourself. I have heard of people using pry bars and a lot of force to move the head but I really can't recommend doing that. If yours is permanently out of alignment I suspect you may have stripped one of the gears inside the base. Take a look at the base and see if there are any stripped or broken gears. This will likely mean your hitch will need to be replaced. It sounds like you are still within the warranty period so if I were you I would reach out to Demco since this should be covered.
