Adding Furrion AC Unit To 2008 Monaco Diplomat With DuoTherm Heat Pump And Furnace

Updated 12/23/2025 | Published 10/28/2024

Question:

I have an 08 Monaco Diplomat with two duotherm heat pumps and two LP furnaces and all four operate from a single thermostat and there are two temperature sensors on the walls in the bedroom and living space. I want to replace the living area heat pump with an 18k btu Furion chill cube. The current system is ducted. I’ve attached a photo of the current system and would like to know what I need to make the new Furion system work.

Hello Robert, thanks for reaching out. It is possible to add a Furrion Chill Cube RV AC Unit to your 2008 Monaco Diplomat, but there would be no way to have your current thermostat run the AC unit. The Furrion unit would require its own independent thermostat. The Furrion Chill Cube RV AC w/ Air Distribution Box, Thermostat - Ducted - 18,000 Btu - Black/White # FR49TD would be perfect for this since it comes with its own distribution box, controller and thermostat.

Hey Robert, how did things go with adding the Furrion Chill Cube to your Monaco Diplomat? Did the new thermostat setup work smoothly with your existing system? Your update could make it easier for others upgrading their RV cooling.

@JesseM it went well. The thickness of our roof required using the four old bolts. The foam to seal the two halves together was short by an inch so we had to purchase some foam to fill in the gap. We use the follow me remote and had to do some wiring to keep our original furnaces and rear heat pump on its original thermostat. We used the unit in Utah in August this summer and it kept the coach nice and cool. Hope to be able to run it on our solar system this coming summer. If they come out with a heat pump unit we will move this one to the rear and put the heat pump in its place. We also like how quiet it is.

@Robert Thanks for sharing, Robert! These installs rarely go exactly according to plan, but it sounds like you handled it and got it done which is awesome. I believe Furrion does plan to make a heat strip option for the Chill Cube, but I have not heard of any plans to do an actual heat pump. The heat strip would help take the bite out of the air on chilly mornings, but it would not be a substitute for a heat pump or furnace. If you plan to be camping in cold temps I recommend sticking with a furnace setup. Thanks again for the feedback, and have a great Christmas!
