Can The Demco Channel Tongue Trailer Coupler DM15945 Be Installed On Aluminum Tongue?

Question:

I am preparing to install my new Demco easy latch coupler onto my aluminum trailer. Do I need to worry about galvanic corrosion? What would you put, if anything between the plated steel coupler and the aluminum surface being attached to? Thanks. John

Good question, john. The Demco Channel Tongue Trailer Coupler # DM15945 is fine to use on an aluminum tongue. The zinc coating on these are not going to have any reaction with the aluminum frame. You do not add any additional material between the coupler and the tongue. Just make sure not to over-tighten the coupler bolts. If you go too tight it could cause the aluminum to bend.
