What Hardware Should I Use For The Demco Channel Tongue Trailer Coupler DM15945

Updated 10/14/2024 | Published 10/10/2024

Question:

I have just purchased from you Demco Channel Tongue Trailer Coupler - eZ-Latch - Zinc - 2 Ball - Bolt On - 7,000 lbs. it is a replacement for my current coupler. The trailer this is mounting to is aluminum and this will attach to 3” aluminum tongue. Can you recommend bolts, washers nuts to replace exiting bolts for this install. My current coupler only has two bolts I see this one has holes for 3. This is a light alums enclosed trailer and is only rated 3000lbs. Thanks

Hey John, thanks for reaching out. You will want to use some 1/2" grade 5 bolts and locknuts for mounting the Demco Channel Tongue Trailer Coupler # DM15945. Since the current coupler uses only 2 bolts, you will be fine to use two bolts with the new coupler as well. You can drill a 3rd hole if you wish, but it is not required for this size of trailer. We do not carry hardware for this, but you can pick some up at a local hardware store or auto parts store. Just be careful not to over-tighten the locknuts. We don't want to damage the aluminum tongue.

Jesse Additionally on my Aluma 6x10 enclosed I am looking to upgrade and replace my jack. Do you think either of these is a good choice. Fulton F2 F1413140334 Or F1413020134 Thx. John

@John Yes those are both good choices for an aluminum trailer. Between the two I would go with the Fulton F2 Boat Trailer Jack # F1413020134. The dual wheel makes it a lot more stable and easier to maneuver. You will just want to make sure that the 12-1/4" retracted height and 22-1/2" extended height is appropriate for your trailer.

@JesseM to further on this topic. I like the dual wheel but now that I see the plate size I do t think it will work. My aluminum tongue is 3”wide by 6” tall. Can you offer suggestions? Thx!

@JohnF Ok glad you mentioned that because the 3x6 frame does rule out a lot of jack options. Take a look at the Ark Xtreme Off-Road Tube Mount Swivel Trailer Jack # ARK57FR. This has a dual wheel and will fit the 3x6 frame. The Ark jacks are fantastic. We have one on our utility trailer and it works great. It never gets stuck and makes the trailer very easy to maneuver by hand. They are super durable and also have a zinc finish so it will not corrode the aluminum frame. There is also one available in black # ARK47FR.
