Question:
I recently bought a small travel trailer, the previous owner gave me a curt venturer trailer brake controller. My truck is a 2019 Toyota Tacoma. Can you tell me what wiring harness I need to buy to make the quick connect between the truck pig tail and the cutter pigtail?

Hi Matthew; the correct wiring harness for your brake controller port and the Curt Venturer is the Curt Custom Wiring Adapter for Trailer Brake Controllers # C51455. Keep in mind, this is a time-delayed brake controller so the trailer brakes apply at a set amount of time and power after you press the brake pedal in your Tacoma.
I highly recommend using a proportional brake controller like the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty # RED68CR instead. This senses deceleration and activates the trailer brakes in proportion to your vehicle's braking as the name implies. It comes with a custom wiring harness and installs behind the dash so only the control knob is visible. You can also use the Mounting Panel # 331-TPSI-002 to install it in a blank knockout for a factory look. You will be a lot happier with a proportional brake controller, especially if you tow your new trailer a decent amount.
I attached an installation video below for your reference.

Hey Matthew, how did things go with the Curt wiring adapter on your Tacoma? Did it connect smoothly with your Venturer controller or did you decide to try the Redarc setup instead? Your update could make it easier for the next person wiring a brake controller on their truck.
