Most brake controllers stick out and take up knee room, but this one hides the main unit behind the dash. All you see is a small knob on the console, just 1-7/8" long and 9/16" wide. It looks like a factory switch, not an aftermarket box. That single knob does it all—adjusting brake power, hitting manual override, and showing color-coded LED alerts. The result is a clean, factory-style setup that doesn’t clutter your cab or interfere with anything else.
Loose dirt, sand, or steep hills can make towing unpredictable. With Off-Road Mode, you set how much braking power your trailer gets—independent of your tow vehicle’s brakes. Keep it low in mud or sand so the trailer doesn’t dig in, or turn it up on descents to stop the load from pushing forward. Just rotate the knob to 0, press it twice within one second, and you’re locked in when the LED turns green. It’s simple control that keeps towing smooth no matter where you’re headed.
This controller uses a 3-axis accelerometer to match your trailer brakes to how you’re actually braking. Gentle pedal pressure means light trailer braking; hard stops bring strong braking power. It works with electric or electric-over-hydraulic systems on trailers with up to 3 axles (6 brake assemblies). The result is balanced stopping power, less wear on parts, and no push-pull feeling when slowing down.
Installation is quick thanks to the included vehicle-specific plug-in harness. There’s no splicing—just mount the main unit and connect it using the 3' cable to the dash knob. The control box measures only 4" long x 3-3/8" wide x 1-1/8" tall, so it fits neatly behind panels or under trim using screws, tape, or zip ties. Once mounted, calibration is automatic—just drive and brake normally until the LED glows solid blue to confirm setup is complete.
Beyond easy operation, this controller is built for durability and safety. It meets or exceeds UNECE R21 and FMVSS 201 regulations and operates on both 12-volt and 24-volt electrical systems. With a continuous output current of 25 amps and an output voltage range of 9V–32V, it’s ready for consistent performance every time you tow.

This is gonna have a factory look and feel looking like it always belonged in your dash. You're really not gonna even know if you've got a brake controller installed in the cab of your vehicle with this REDARC brake controller. Now this brake controller is going to activate your trailer's brakes in proportion to your vehicle's braking action. It's gonna automatically adjust your trailer's braking based on the deceleration of your tow vehicle. Now this brake controller comes with a unique feature that lets you respond to any terrain or weather that you meet while on the road.
The user-controlled mode is going to give you direct control over your trailer's braking so you can have exactly the level of power output you need for any situation. So this particular brake controller is gonna be perfect for off-roading or adverse weather conditions. In this user-controlled mode, this Tow-Pro Trail will apply your trailer's brakes with the same preset amount of power each time you activate the brakes in your vehicle. You can just set the power low if you're towing through sand or mud so that the trailer doesn't stop with too much force and act as an anchor, or when you're on a steep descent, you're just gonna set the power to a higher level to ensure that the trailer's momentum doesn't cause it to push against the tow vehicle. Now this control knob is going to mount in your dash or any other easily accessible area, maybe like your center console, and it will allow for quick and easy adjustment of the braking power, which is the turn of the dial that you can see here, and it's also going to provide manual override by just pressing the knob to activate the trailer brakes.
This is also going to offer simple diagnostics with a bright-colored LED in the dial, and then this main unit here is going to install out of sight. So what's nice about this is there's not gonna be any more banging your knee on a bulky controller underneath your steering wheel as you're getting into your vehicle, it's not gonna cause any interference with airbags or other vehicle accessories, and, of course, no hard-to-reach override lever, or impossible-to-read screen. This can be mounted in any position, direction, and angle with the included mounting kit that you see here, and there's no complicated wiring. It is designed for use with electric or electric over hydraulic trailer brakes, and it is designed to work with your 12-volt and 24-volt vehicle electrical systems. For my 2021 Gladiator with factory tow. Everything including specific harness and little round mount for the control knob to replace the 12v outlet was in the kit. Hardest part of install was learning how to open the dash panel. The controllor powered up and is working as expected on normal road driving. Very straight forward and no struggles.
Package came in well packed and as advertised. Very easy to deal with and seems to be a quality product. Have not used it yet but if performance matches video's watched should be great.

I wasn’t sure spending the extra money on this was necessary cause I had always been using the other style controls for ever and they worked fine. I bought this because of the limited leg room under my dash on my new rig. After installing this, not only did I have more refined braking control, I mounted the control knob where I didn’t have to hunch over to reach for adjustment or manual braking. And now the reason for buying it was just an added bonus.
The Redarc controller that I ordered to install in my Lexus GX460 was perfect! I ordered the Tow Pro Trail version. The harness to connect the factory trailer harness under the dash was the correct one for my Lexus. lling the controller that se are a little more work than installing the ones that hang under the dash, but well worth it!

Installed in a modified Tacoma, with a serious off-road trailer. I use this system camping / off-road 40+ nights per year, mostly in the Sierra Mts. I have blown 2 other brake systems which caused unsafe conditions. I had just a few hours to install the RedArc system before leaving on a trip. The truck specific plug and play setup was quick and easy with a very clean simple dash button. It has been dependable over the year.

Glad to hear it's working well for you, Greg! Redarc brake controllers are probably the best ones currently on the market and are the only ones I recommend anymore. They work extremely well and are super reliable, so I would be willing to bet it will continue working well for years to come! ^___^ Where do you typically go in the Sierras? Growing up, we used to go to Mammoth every summer for a mountain biking trip. Did Mt Whitney once too. Remember that being hard, to put it lightly.
