Does The Curt C11354 Hitch For 2013 Volkswagen Beetle Require Stabilizing Straps?

Updated 09/09/2024 | Published 09/01/2024

Question:

I have a 2013 VW beetle turbo 2.0 and looking for a hitch that will support a bike rack. You show C11354 as being the correct hitch without need to drilling holes. Can you confirm? Also, why is there a need for stabilization straps? Thanks very much in advance for your response. I appreciate it.

Hello Chris, thanks for getting in touch. I can confirm that the Curt Class 1 Hitch # C11354 will be a fit for your 2013 VW Beetle Turbo 2.0, and it will indeed be a no-drill install. You will have to fish bolts thru the frame using the included fish wire, but the holes are already present in the frame, so a drill will not be needed.

The Stabilizing Straps # 18050 are recommended basically because the VW Beetle is not intended to carry much weight at the hitch. The straps will help to evenly distribute the weight on the hitch and will prevent any excessive torque from damaging the hitch or your vehicle. They are a very easy inexpensive add-on please use one if you are hauling an unsupported load like a bike rack or cargo carrier.

Thank you Jesse. The information I’ve been receiving is that my vehicle should definitely not be using a hitch and bike rack due to the eight limits so I may have to just pass on it. I had figured I would order the straps too but the information I’m receiving makes me feel uneasy about the setup when considering the vehicle frame and tongue weight limitations. Thanks again for all your help
