Can Older Marvel Trailer Coupler Be Repaired
Updated 09/01/2023 | Published 08/31/2023 >
Question:
Hello, I just recently got a trailer that is missing the lever to lock the coupler on the ball. I see you have quite a few different replacements but I’m not sure if any will work for my coupler or which one I would need. I was wondering if I send a picture of my coupler if you could potentially identify what parts I would need. I would just replace the whole coupler but the one I have is welded to the trailer and has the vin number stamped into it. So that doesn’t seem like an option. I think it’s a marvel brand coupler probably from the 70s or 80s. Thanks

Thank you for the photos!
It looks like Marvel used to be associated with Atwood and they went out of business a while ago. We have some similar coupler styles but I'm not seeing that any of our repair kits having the same design as your coupler so what I recommend doing is replacing the coupler completely. Any official markings for the trailer should be on the frame but if they are on the coupler then you might try taking a photo of it and keeping it with the trailer and/or having that vital information cut off of the current coupler and then having it welded to the frame of the trailer so it's easily accessible.
For a replacement coupler I recommend the Demco Cast Head Coupler w/ Jack Hole # DM37ZR because it has the eZ-Latch system so you just have to drop the coupler on your hitch ball - you don't have to lift the lever prior to connecting your trailer.
Attached is a review/installation video for you to check out!
