Determining Which Replacement Spring Bar Is Needed for 28" Long Spring Bar

Updated 01/23/2026 | Published 08/11/2024

Question:

I want to replace a bent trunnion spring bar for the Quality S load leveler hitch for my travel trailer. The bar is about 28 Long and looks just like CURT Accessories and Parts - C17337. At the knuckle the bar is about 1 1/8 square. I use it on a 21 1995 Prowler that weights about 4000 lbs so I think the 1000 lb tongue weight would likely be realistic. What suggestions do you have?

It's entirely possible Keith, that you do have the Replacement Trunnion Bar Kit for Curt Weight Distribution System # C17337. Looking around our site, it looks like that is the smallest bar we carry at 28-3/8" so I'd recommend double checking your length since you mention it's "about" 28" long.

If you're able to find a part number stamped somewhere on the bar that would be the best case scenario since it's pretty difficult to tell what bars you have if they were made by Curt or Reese.

If you could also send some pictures in, that'd also be a big help as well.

Hey Keith, were you able to confirm the length or find a part number on your trunnion bar? Knowing that could really help others trying to match older bars for their weight distribution hitches. Your update could make it easier for the next person with the same issue.

@JesseM Hey Jesse, I posted a reply here a couple days ago but I don't see it here and have no received a reply from you so here goes again. Life got in the way so thus my long delay in following up on this. Thanks for your prompt Photos at this link - https://photos.app.goo.gl/Q1BXziNEFbQk6h4k8 The C17337 looks like it will work. Length of my present ones are about 28 1/2" to center of the knob (see photo) . Please send your comments / agreement before I order.

@KeithB Hey Keith. I do agree the Curt # C17337 bar will be a length and size match to the bar in your pictures. The only unknown is if the weight capacity matches what you have now. You will want to make absolutely sure the current bars have the same 1,000 lb - 1,500 lb weight rating. If the bars aren't equal you won't get the results you want. If you are unsure of the weight rating of both bars, I do recommend replacing both.
