Question:

this hitch can be installed on an X1? All the research Ive seen so far says there is not enough room underneath for this to be installed. Do you have photos of this product installed on an X1? thanks,

We offer three brands of 2-inch Class III trailer hitch for the 2014 BMW X1, including the Curt # C13140 that you referenced. All available options can be seen on the link provided. We have not had a local customer come in for an install to enable us to shoot a video.

This hitch installs without drilling but it is necessary to temporarily lower the exhaust to provide adequate working room for installing the included mounting hardware. Tools required include several metric wrenches, two 3/4-inch wrenches, screwdriver or trim panel tool (like # ALL648544) as well as a rivet gun and torque wrench. As hitch installations go, this one can be considered fairly challenging.

The written installation instructions are attached for your reference along with two articles concerning hitch installation.

Maximum tongue weight (downward force on the hitch) and towing capacity for the Hidden Hitch # 87630, which is the most popular unit for owners of the 2014 X1, are 400-lbs and 3500-lbs respectively, but if used along with a weight distribution system the maximum gross trailer weight capacity increases to 4000-lbs.
