Can I Swap Out My AC Unit For One With A Higher BTU Rating?

Question:

I am looking to changing out my AC in my Passport 2810BH, would like to know if I can get one with a higher BTU? Also what other than the AC unit will I need.

Hello Sonny; yes, it is very common to swap to a higher BTU AC unit. 30 amp service is enough to power a 15,000 BTU AC unit, so even if your RV is only 30 amp you can still upgrade.

We do need to make sure the replacement AC unit will be compatible with your current AC system. If you can tell me the brand of your current AC, I can determine which unit you can use. For example, the Furrion Chill HE # FR58PR will replace a Furrion brand AC and work with the Furrion AC system. If you have a different brand, just let me know. Depending on what brand you have, you may need to replace your ceiling register, controller and thermostat as well.

@SonnyC Great! I recommend the Furrion Chill HE part # FR42PV. This is the same high efficiency 15,000 BTU AC unit I mentioned above only this one comes with a conversion kit that makes is directly compatible with your Dometic AC system. Meaning your vents and thermostat inside the camper can stay in place.
