Recommended Suspension Enhancement For a 2019 Ford E-450 Class C 31' Chassis

Updated 02/20/2026 | Published 06/22/2024

Question:

Hello! We have a 31ft Class C based on a 2019 Ford E450 chassis. I want to replace the Firestone Ride-rite airbags. What would you recommend, helper springs like SuperSprings or Sumo Springs or a combination of both? The GVWR for the unit is 24,000.

Expert Reply:

I recommend going with the SumoSprings Front # SSF-106-47 and Rear # SSR-106-47-1 for your 2019 Ford E-450 Class S chassis. I find these provide the support you need without causing a lot of stiffness in the suspension.

If you notice your camper has a lot of body roll you can upgrade your Rear Sway Bar # RM-1139-147. And we have the Exact Center Steering Stabilizer # RM47MR to help with the other common problem of steering wandering due to the overhang on the front of Class C RV's.

Hey, how did the SumoSprings work out on your Ford E-450 Class C? Did they give you the smoother ride and support you were looking for? Your feedback could really help others trying to dial in their suspension setup.

@BrookeM Absolutely worth it. The only alternative would be to have a truck repair shop replace the original springs to boost them up. This route may have the advantage that you can add height so the chassis doesn't sit so low. When Ford builds the chassis, they do not know how much weight is going to be placed on top and trust the outfitter to add the necessary springs. But they only do the minimum. We're happy wih the sumo springs rear and front, and would recommend them in a heartbeat.
