Can The 3 Hole Demco Coupler Be Used On a 3" Channel Tongue With Only 2 Mounting Holes?

my present coupler has the two top bolt holes as like on the 12564. however the third lower hole on the 12564 is not drilled out on my trailer tongue. is it ok to drill out this hole and use a bolt in it ? my trailer tongue is 3inch x 3

Yes, you would be able to drill out the 3rd hole for the Demco Coupler # 12564 and use it on your 3" wide channel. It sounds like you have a coupler like our etrailer # CT-5003-Z which only used the 2 mounting holes due to the light weight of the trailer. Our coupler is only rated for trailers up to 5,000lbs while the Demco is rated up to 10,000lbs.

Hey, how did things go after drilling the third hole for the Demco coupler on your 3-inch tongue? It’d be great to hear if the fit and latch worked out as expected. Your update could make it easier for others upgrading from a lighter coupler.
