eZ-Latch Coupler

This coupler features a simple-to-use latching mechanism known as the eZ-Latch. With this mechanism, hooking up is as easy as dropping the coupler over your trailer hitch ball. The latch does not need to be tugged or manually activated to allow the ball into the coupler socket, nor does it have to be secured in place. Just make sure that the coupler is properly lined up with the ball when you lower it, and the rest is automatic. Disengaging the coupler is just as effortless. Simply lift up the contoured handle and the coupler socket will automatically release its grip on the ball.

  • Can I Remove My Hydraulic Actuator And Replace It With A Regular Coupler?
Hello Jay; yes, it is possible to remove your hydraulic actuator and replace it with a regular coupler. If your hydraulic hitch is just bolted on, you can simply unbolt it and replace it. If the hitch is welded on, a bit more work will be involved. The old unit will need to be removed, and additional material may need to be added to the tongue. Demco Channel Tongue Trailer Coupler # DM15000-52. The Demco eZ-latch is extremely durable and easy to use - way better than any other coupler....

  • Parts Needed to Swap UFP A-70 Surge Coupler to Work W/ Electric-Over-Hydraulic Brakes
Stan, so it sounds like you want to go from surge to electric over hydraulic braking. What you need to do then is get an actuator # HBA-10 for drum or # HBA16 for disc, a brake controller like the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195, and then finally lock out the coupler or replace it with a standard coupler like # DM15000-52. If there is anything else I'm missing or that you have questions with, feel free to come back and drop a comment and I'd be happy to help :)

  • Recommended Replacement Actuator for a TDE 7.5K Coupler
Hi Hssutton, to replace your TDE 7500 hydraulic coupler I recommend going with the Dexter DX7.5 Drop-N-Go Brake Actuator - Disc Brakes # 099-175-20. This actuator will work with 3" wide frames, 2" hitch balls, and has the same 7.5k capacity your current one has. This coupler is for disc brakes, but if you need one for drum brakes then you can use the Dexter DX7.5 Drop-N-Go Brake Actuator # 099-175-00 instead.

  • Replacement for Shelby 5107 Trailer Coupler
So what you're looking for is a straight tongue coupler for a 2" ball with a 3" channel that can handle at least 7,500 lbs. For a replacement that fits these requirements we have a few options from Demco. If you want a zinc finish with a 200-Hour salt spray rating we have the # 12564. If you would rather have a silver powder coat finish with a 500 hour rating we have the # DM15000-52. Both have a 10,000 lb weight capacity and a bolt-on installation. Both of these also have an eZ-Latch...

  • Parts Needed To Convert Trailer From Surge Brakes To Electric Brakes
Hello Allen, thanks for reaching out. We do have the parts you will need to convert your trailer from surge to electric brakes, but there is no way to look up your trailer online to know exactly what parts you will need. The main thing we need to nail down is which brake assemblies and hubs you will need. If you can provide me with the casting number from your hubs, I should be able to use that to look up the info I need. Basically I need to know the weight capacity of your axle, your...

  • Does Surge Brake Actuator Need To Be Disabled When Installing EOH Brakes?
Hello Scott, thanks for reaching out. So you are correct the surge actuator would need to be disabled when switching over to EOH brakes. We do not sell a product for this, other than to replace the entire coupler with a standard one. You could have someone weld the surge coupler in place to prevent it from moving. I have also seen people drill holes thru the coupler and put a few high strength bolts thru to disable it that way. If the current coupler is bolted on and not welded on, what...

  • Replacement for Swing Away Coupler/Actuator on MasterCraft Boat Trailer
Hi Dan; those couplers are no longer around so we do not have a direct replacement. What you can do is pick up a piece of stock steel to extend the tongue and add a Fulton Fold-Away Coupler Hinge. Then you can add an actuator like the # DM72VR or coupler like # DM15000-52 to the tongue which will still fold. The correct replacement for the hinge depends on the tongue dimensions. We have the following: - 2" x 3" Trailer Tongue: Fulton Fold-Away Coupler Hinge Kit # FHDPB230101 - 3" x 3"...

  • Adding Electric Drum Brakes To 1999 Ranger Boat Trailer
Hey Rick, thanks for reaching out. We should certainly have the parts you need to put electric brakes on your trailer, but unfortunately there is no way to use the VIN to know exactly what parts you will need. Trailer manufacturers just do not make this info available online. I can still point you in the right direction though. The main things I will need to know is the weight capacity of your axle, and your bearing sizes. The best way to determine this will be to pull a hub and remove...

  • Parts Needed to Convert Hydraulic Surge Brakes to Electric Over Hydraulic
Hey Paul! You will need an EOH brake actuator, breakaway, and wiring to upgrade to EOH on your trailer. Hydrastar makes a kit that comes with everything you need so that would be the easiest way to do it. The # HS481-8065 is for drum brakes and the # HS481-8067 is for disc. You can either run bolts through your current surge brake actuator to permanently lock it out or replace it with a standard coupler like # DM15000-52.

You mentioned A-frame, though it looks like the Shelby 5135 is a straight tongue coupler, so I'll give options for both. Since you don't want a trigger latch you'll need to upgrade to a 10k coupler but that won't be an issue, and here is what you can use: - A-Frame Coupler: Demco Cast Head Coupler # DM37ZR - Straight Tongue Coupler: Demco Channel Tongue Trailer Coupler # DM15000-52 Both the # DM37ZR and # DM15000-52 are bolt on, fit a 2" hitch ball, and use an eZ-latch so you'll just...

It is compatible with 3 inch channel width and has bolt holes in the spacing I've attached in the photo. • Should Titan Model 10 Surge Brake Actuator Be Locked Out Or Replaced For EOH Brakes?
The HydraStar Electric Over Hydraulic Actuator for Disc Brakes - 1,600 psi # HBA16 you were looking at is the correct Electric Over Hydraulic actuator for the disc brakes on your tandem axle boat trailer. You can lock out your Titan Model 10 surge brake actuator by having it welded which will cause it to not allow the inertia of the trailer to activate the brackets. Since your trailer has a bolt on coupler it would be easier to replace the coupler with a standard coupler like the Demco...

  • Coupler Lock Recommendation for Rental Trailer with Demco EZ Latch Coupler
Thanks for the picture of the coupler of your rental trailer. Based on that we know it's a Demco EZ latch so for a lock that will work great securing it to your hitch ball we know the etrailer coupler lock part # e98887 would work well. It fits right into the pin hole on your coupler behind the latch and will prevent it from unlatching.

  • Replacement Coupler for Shelby 5107 Trailer Coupler
Hi Steve; first of all no, there are no repair kits since Shelby went out of business years ago. The # DM15000-52 and # 12564 can replace it assuming you have a 3" wide channel tongue but you will probably have to drill new holes. We don't have the mounting hole spacing for the 5107 to check and typically there isn't a good match when replacing old couplers. I went ahead and attached some diagrams with the bolt spacing below so you can compare them to what you have now.

Hi Ed, If I'm understanding you correctly your trailer's frame is 3" wide and the coupler needs to have a 2" ball. If so the Demco Channel Tongue Trailer Coupler # DM15000-52 you were looking at would be a compatible fit. • Can The Surge Drum Brakes On a Boat Trailer Be Converted To Electric Over Hydraulic Disc Brakes?
You may be able to convert your boat trailer from surge drum brakes to electric over hydraulic disc brakes. To verify this is possible I will need to know exactly what axles, hubs and surge coupler you have. This may require removing your current hubs to measure the spindles as well to ensure a disc brake kit like the Deemax # DE46YR will fit your spindle. • Longest 2" Ball Coupler For 3" Trailer Tongue
Thanks for the photo, and that's an interesting issue. Realistically though, standard trailer couplers are shorter than their surge brake actuator counterparts, and there's unfortunately just no way around that. I can give you the longest possible option, but it is going to be shorter because brake actuators need a place to house the cylinder and standard couplers do not. • Trailer Coupler Replacement for Shelby 5138
The Shelby coupler you have now is a standard trigger-latch style of coupler that fits a 3 inch frame channel which we have great replacements for. For a high quality replacement I would recommend the Demco coupler part # DM15000-52 which has a very easy to use latch system that also is very reliable and won't get hard to use over time like most do. This also fits a 2 inch hitch ball. Check out the review video I attached for more info on this coupler as well.

Hey Mike, The Demco Channel Tongue Trailer Coupler # DM15000-52 that you were looking at is exactly what I was going to recommend when you said you want an easy hookup. The Demco eZ-Latch will let you couple up to the trailer without having to lift the latch. When it's time to drop the trailer off just lift the latch up and it will release the ball. The closest two mounting holes to the latch side of the coupler are spaced 3" apart just like the DL 980-2. To prevent anyone from taking...

Yes, the Hydrastar Vented Marine Electric Over Hydraulic Actuator for Disc Brakes # HS481-8067 would be the correct kit to use on your boat trailer with surge disc brakes. Depending on what type of channel and coupler you have will decide on the best coupler. Most boat trailers will use a 3" wide coupler so you might find either the 2" Ball # DM15000-52 or 2-5/16" Ball # DM13203-52 to be your best option. The two couplers you referenced are identical size-wise. The # DM15000-52 is a bolt-on application with the EZ latch system and a silver finish. The DM12563 uses a standard latch, is a weld-on application and has a red finish. For the # DM15000-52, the easiest way to locate how far forward the coupler would extend would be to measure forward from the front most mounting hole 7.09 inches. • Are Electric Over Hydraulic Brakes Required To Have Trailer Brakes Work at Boat Ramp?
You will need to use electric over hydraulic brakes to back down a boat ramp and still have the brakes apply. A Surge Actuator # DM72VR will not apply the brakes since the weight of the trailer is pulling the trailer back down the hill versus pushing into the tow vehicle. I do not recommend using electric only brakes since the electromagnet for the brakes will be submerged in water when launching or retrieving your boat.
