2017 GMC Sierra 3500 Replacement for Bumper 7-Way Trailer Socket
Updated 10/23/2023 | Published 10/22/2023 >
Question:
I am using a 7way to 4 way coil extension to go from truck to trailer. When I plug the 7way into the receptacle on bumper everything works on utility trailer except running lights. When I plug the 7way into receptacle in the truck bed and then to trailer, everything works on the utility trailer running, turn, brake. I dont think it is ground or any issue with 4way and trailer lights if everything works from bed receptacle. Is there a separate ground for bumper receptacle?? If so how can I locate it?

Since the in-bed 7-Way is working on your 2017 GMC Sierra 3500 it sounds like you need to simply replace the 7-Way at your bumper. If the bumper 7-Way had a bad ground it would be causing more issues than just the running lights to not work.
You can try locating the ground near your bumper and just make sure it's secured to a clean, bare-metal surface just to make sure, but you should just need to replace your OEM connector with the Hopkins # HM40975 and that will take care of your issue!
