I spoke with my contact at K-Source about the Custom Snap On Towing Mirrors, part # KD80700 for your 2008 Dodge Ram 1500. They told me that the foam tape that is installed on the inside of the mirror housing of the towing mirrors can be removed if the fit is too tight. If the foam protective tape is removed it could allow the chrome plastic cover you have on your mirrors to come in contact with the material of the towing mirrors. There can be no guarantee that no damage would occur. I would suggest if you decide on these mirrors, you should place a thin material between the truck mirror and the K-Source towing mirror.
I pulled a set of these mirrors and measured the foam tape that is installed on the mirror. It measures approximately 1/16 of an inch thick. I have attached a photo of the driver side mirror and took some dimensions. Since the mirrors are contoured, it is difficult to give the dimensions of the entire mirror for you, but I measured at the points noted in the photo. As far as depth of the towing mirror, it is contoured as well and in the center of the housing I measured approximately 3-1/2 inches.
