Is It Normal For There To Be A Gap Between The Jaws Of A Hitch And The King Pin
Updated 06/27/2023 | Published 06/26/2023 >
Question:
I recently installed the Curt 30k PowerRide hitch on my 2023 Ford F350 to pull a 2023 Keystone Montana and I have noticed that the hitch pin has some space while seated in the hitch. I have not measured the space, but there is a notable sound of the hitch pin hitting the front and rear of the hitch when I stop or take off from a stop. Is this normal?

Expert Reply:
It would not be normal for there to be a large amount of space between the jaws of the Curt PowerRide 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # C48BR and the king pin of your trailer's pin box. I recommend hooking up to the trailer and trying to pull forward a bit to see just how big the gap is and reach out to Curt to see what they consider is acceptable. It could be within tolerance but it could be an indicator that the jaws aren't fully closing as they should so I recommend taking pictures to help Curt determine if this is an issue with the hitch.
