Trailer Mode Won't Turn On After Stealth Hitch Install On BMW X5 XDrive 40i

Question:

I had stealth hitch authorized installer installed Stealth Hitch on 2021 X5 xDrive 40i. All the lights work but trailer mode won’t show up on iDrive menu. Any suggestions?

For your Stealth Hitches Hidden Trailer Hitch Receiver w/ Towing Kit - Custom Fit - 2" # SH25VR there are two options.

Stealth hitch offers a remote programming option for the BMW you would need to contact Stealth to get this started.

If that isn't feasible, you will need to contact a BMW dealer to get them to program it. BMW does make a controller and wire harness that will give you true trailer mode. Just need the dealer to get it for you and install.

And when the BMW dealer refuses to even consider installing the wiring and control module. Even one of their own. Suggestions?

@Merg If the BMW dealer is refusing to install BMW wiring and control module then you should try contacting a different BMW dealer. I do not understand any reason they would not install their own products. If you are going to install the Stealth Hitches Hidden Trailer Hitch Receiver w/ Towing Kit - Custom Fit - 2" # SH25VR, Stealth Hitches can actually perform the update to the vehicles module. They would need for you to have a computer you can connect to the car and you can read more information on this in the instructions linked near the bottom of the page for the hitch and harness installation. At this point any shop in your area should be able to help you with this installation.
