How To Convert Euro 7-Pin to US 4-Way Trailer Connector
Updated 09/29/2022 | Published 09/28/2022 >
Question:
I have a 1991 Land Rover Defender and the Euro 7 pin wiring harness was completely shot so I had to cut it off. I have wired a US 4 pin directly into the Defender wiring harness, but when I turn on the blinkers, the break lights flash i.e. all 4 indicators flash at the same time do I need some kind of adapter to separate the signal? Thank you for your help.

The brake and turn signal circuits on a Euro 7-Pin Trailer Connector are separate whereas the brake and turn signals circuits on a US 4-Way Trailer Connector are combined. Therefore, you'll need a converter if adapting from the 7-Pin to a 4-Way, the Roadmaster Brite-Lite Wiring Converter part # RM-732 is what I recommend. This will wire directly into a 4-Way like the 4-Pole Hardwire Kit with Circuit Tester part #18252.which comes with a circuit tester that you will need as you can't simply match wire colors, you need to test and go by function. I have attached a diagram of the Euro 7-Pin below as well.
