My RocketBox Is Locked And I Do Not Have The Key, What Are My Options

Updated 06/16/2022 | Published 06/15/2022

Question:

I have a rocket box that was given to me when I purchased a 09 Subaru. I lost the keys and do not see a number on the face. How do I get it open, and find the right key to open it? Given roughly the year would there be a key “most likely” to fit?

Unfortunately, Yakima locks do not have the key number on the face of the lock. It is imprinted on the side of the lock core. If you do not know what lock number you have, you only have two options.

You can go to a retailer who has an entire set of the Yakima SKS (Same Key System) lock core keys. Many REI locations and possibly some bike shops that sell Yakima products will have a full set of these keys. If this works, you could get replacement keys from us. Once you know the replacement key number, you can find the part number by adding it to the end of part # Y8772- XXXX. For example if you have lock core A146, you would order Replacement Key for Yakima Racks and Carriers - A146, part # Y8772-A146

If that does not work, you will have to drill out the old lock core. Next, you will have to get a replacement lock core with the keys. Yakima lock cores only come in multiples of two. The Yakima Same Key System (SKS) Lock Cores (QTY 2), part # Y07202, is what you will need. The Yakima lock core box has a spot for you to write down the lock core number for safe keeping.

I have included product description links below.
