Will a Weight Distribution System Work On a Class A Motorhome

Updated 02/07/2022 | Published 02/06/2022

Question:

Hi, We have a 2016 Class A with GVW of 18,000 lbs, GCVW of 23,000. We are have some issue with front end being light, we are almost exactly on max weight with rear axle at 11,500 before trailer added, trailer hitch weight is 490. Front axle is 6200. But once trailer is connected the rear weight goes over max by @ 700 lbs and front become lighter.. would a weight distribution hitch help with this? We dont have that much stuff in the back of the RV and have moved everything forward possible.

If the trailer hitch on the motorhome has a separate capacity for use with a weight carrying hitch then you can use one. The hitch will distribute the weight from the rear of the vehicle to the front where you need it. The amount of weight transferred will vary by setup. In order to choose the correct system you'll need to know the weight of the trailer, the tongue in particular. I recommend the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System part # EQ37100ET which is a bit overrated for just the trailer but when you factor in the RV it's perfect. It is one of the best options on the market. It's a complete setup that has everything you need. In addition to the weight distribution, the system will also help with trailer sway.
