Will 10 Inch Trailer Brakes Fit In Place of 7 Inch Brakes
Updated 06/26/2013 | Published 06/25/2013 >
Question:
I have a 2003 triton elite 22inch aluminum 4 place open snowmobile trailer. It came with 7inch Dexter electric brakes on one axle. Can I replace these with 10inch brakes? Are they interchangable?

Ten inch brakes will use a larger hub than 7 inch brakes. So you will not only have to change the brake assemblies but also the hubs and the wheels. If cost is not a factor then you can do all of this but it would be much easier to just replace the 7 inch brakes.
If the brakes are not providing enough power there may be another issue to look at. Make sure the brakes are properly adjusted. To do this you will turn the adjustment wheel until you can hear a slight but constant drag of the pads on the brake drum.
You can also inspect the magnets. If the windings are coming through then they will need to be replaced. To further test the magnets I have included a link to an FAQ article that you can follow.
If you want to go to larger brakes, hubs, and wheels I will need to know a few things. First, I will need to know the wheel bolt pattern, I will also need to know the inner and outer bearing numbers, and the tire size will also be helpful.
