Is It Bad to Flat-Tow a 2016 Jeep Wrangler

Question:
I do a lot of off roading in my 2016 jeep and have had multiple after market upgrades on my wrangler as have my fellow jeepers. Many of them along with the shops that have done the upgrades tell me flat towing a jeep is hard on the multiple steering components of the jeep and that I should trailer tow a jeep whenever we are taking our jeep out of state for jeep adventures such as Jeep jamborees. Also, I seem to be getting conflicting views as to the front wheels of the towed jeep turning as the towing vehicle turns. Your information seems to indicate that properly unlocked, the towed Jeep’s wheels do turn. Thank you for addressing my concerns.

There are no inherent issues with flat towing a Jeep Wrangler, in fact, it is one of the most popular flat-towed vehicles. That said, if you add large aftermarket tires and a lift kit then this will affect its ability to track behind a motorhome properly. It will still work and a lot of people do it but you can run into issues, a lot of times we recommend adding a bungee cord to the steering wheel on lifted Jeeps to help them track better. If you do decide to tow the Jeep you'll need a few different items which I have attached a list of below.
