How To Identifying A Replacement For A Missing Bearing Buddy

Updated 11/01/2021 | Published 10/31/2021

Question:

I just purchased a used trailer that has a Bearing Buddy on one side, but not the other. I am hoping to be able to clearly identify which product/size I have and purchase a single to add to the other side. Does the side without the bearing buddy look like it should be able to accept a bearing buddy? Can you tell which one I have? Thanks!

From looking at the pictures you included, it does look like you will need the Bearing Buddy # BB1980A (Chrome Plated) or # BB1980A-SS (Stainless Steel). However, both of these are designed to fit a 1.980" hub bore that is commonly found on 2,000-lb, 2,500-lb and 3,500-lb Dexter axles.

With that being said, I strongly recommend measuring either the bore of the hub, or pulling the existing Bearing Buddy off to verify its size. The 19B rubber cover ( # BB19B) can fit 5 of the Bearing Buddy models, so seeing that does not 100% say the # BB1980A-SS will be the correct size.

Bearing Buddy also does not currently offer single protectors at this time.
