What Does OL Code of Tekonsha Brake Controller Indicate
Published 10/19/2021 >
Question:
After professional installation and 100 mile test from dealer without incidents, first trip out now loaded with our gear had a code come up. Its o.L . Owners pamphlet says it sees an overload condition during operation. Whats an overload condition? Nothing in pamphlet. I am pulling with 2014 subaru outback, 2700 lb. Tow cap. Pulling a 2022 clipper express 9.0 Camper that weighs 1500lb dry. I might have 200 lbs. of gear on it. Road fine to home. Now get the o.L code. Help?

The OL (overload) error message on Tekonsha brake controllers like # TK94FR tends to suggest that there is a problem in your trailer's brake circuit wiring. You can start by inspecting both the vehicle and trailer connectors for any signs of corrosion or trapped dirt that could cause two circuits to become bridged together. Check both sides of each connector and clean/replace as needed.
Also check the trailer's entire brake circuit wire from the trailer connector all the way along the wiring (looking for signs of cracked or worn insulation) back to each brake assembly. If the brake circuit wire has any damage this could cause a short that would lead to the overload and short circuit error messages. Repair or replace any damaged wire.
