According to the owner's manual for the Tekonsha Prodigy RF Wireless Trailer Brake Controller part # TK94FR, "The Prodigy RF may operate with reduced performance if the Remote Hand Held Unit is removed or disconnected while the trailer is in use". Therefore, no the remote cannot be removed from the power source while towing with your 2018 Jeep JL Wrangler Unlimited.
