Question:

I have 2016 f250 and I just got a LEER camper shell. Id like to hook up the 3rd brake light and a dome light on the shell. Id also like to be able to disconnect the shell and remove easily. I do tow with the truck and shell so using the 7 way plug in would be difficult. Any suggestions?? Thanks

In order to wire this up the way you want, and also be able to disconnect it easily, I suggest using the Hopkins 4-Pole Flat Wiring Extension - 120" Long # HM48235 and the 3rd Brake Light Logic Module # PP20-702.

I would start by cutting the Hopkins wiring extension in the middle (you can measure first and cut according to how much length you need for each end). The two different 4-way plug ends will be how you connect and disconnect the camper shell wiring from the vehicle. The idea is to splice in the wires from one end of the Hopkins to your right stop/turn signal, left stop/turn signal and 12V power on your vehicle side. You can just run this off of your existing 4-way/7-way wiring harness. This is the same as your typical 4-way but you are replacing the taillights with the 12V power.

On the camper shell side you will use the other half of the Hopkins. Run the wire that will be your 12V power wire to your dome light. This is assuming it has a switch, otherwise it will always be on. The left stop/turn signal and right stop/turn signal wires will connect to the yellow wires on the # PP20-702 logic module in order to keep your 3rd brake light from activating with turn signals. You will then run the green wire from the logic module to the 3rd brake light.

Once this is done all you need to do is plug the two 4-way connection ends together and your lights should be up and running on your camper shell.
