Question:

When I hook up my 34 foot travel trailer to my Ram 1500 with a tow package, the rear of the truck s close to 3 inches and the front raises up about 1 inch. As you would expect the rear of the truck becomes a little squirrely going down the road. Im torn between the Sumo springs and the Timbren system. I want to level out the truck and increase stability going down the road without making the truck loose its soft ride when not pulling the camper. I also dont want to make the ride jar my teeth when pulling the camper. I see different weight numbers for both systems that adds to the confusion. Which system is best to fit my needs?

In this case, I recommend using the SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs - Rear Axle # SSR-307-47 because they'll do a bit better job of keeping the factory ride nice and comfortable; these springs provide 1500-lbs of load leveling capacity, so your trailer's tongue weight and the weight of any payload should be considered.

If your trailer's tongue weight/pin weight and the payload you carry is greater than 1500-lbs then the Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System # TDR1500DS would be the way to go. This Timbren kit is designed for heavier loads and can help with up to 6000-lbs on the rear end. Timbren springs are also progressively load bearing like Sumo Springs, so they'll stiffen up the more weight is applied and they also typically sit about 1" above the axle to help negate any effect on the unloaded ride quality.

Both of these options install without any drilling and are no maintenance once installed, so they're a great alternative to an air bag; you'll just want to consider the weight of the trailer when choosing the best fit. If you can provide the pin weight or tongue weight of your trailer, I'm happy to help provide you with a more direct recommendation.
