Question:

I was curious as to why you would rather sell the Timbren set up as opposed to the Sumo Springs? I have used the Timbren before for customer vehicles but have been told that the Sumo Springs don't affect the ride quality as much and aren't as stiff when loaded. Thanks in advance.

For your 2017 Ram 1500, I recommend using the Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System part # TDR1500DQ. The newer Ram trucks have coil springs in the rear as opposed to the standard leaf spring setup. The coil springs are great for handling and ride comfort but not the best for towing as they have a tendency to sag.

The Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System will do an excellent job of taking some the rear end sag out of your Ram while towing. The best thing about the springs besides the fact that they are completely maintenance free is that they are only working while a load is present so you do not have to worry about ride quality while unloaded.

I have attached an install video on a similar truck for you as well.

You are correct in that the SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs part # SSR-307-47 will retain more of the ride quality than the Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System part # TDR1500DQ will, while loaded that is. The Timbren's will not affect the ride quality while unloaded. With that being said, the 1,280 lbs dry tongue weight that your trailer has will be a lot of work for the SumoSprings as they are only rated at 1,500 lbs. The Timbrens rated at 8,600 lbs will do a much better job at distributing the weight of your trailer across the vehicle.

Hello,I have 2017 Ram 1500 and was looking at the Timbren TDR1500DQ and noticed the Timbern TT1500. My truck is not lifted so running at factory heights. I use the truck mainly to pull a 28ft bumper hitch travel trailer at around 8000# not sure of the tongue wieght, probably 95% of the miles I drive are towing. So with all that, what is the difference in the two model numbers given? Or would I be better off with the Air lift 1000? I have seen conflicting reports on your website about the ride being affected or not affected with the Timberlin setup, so I am a bit confused about that as well. Any light you can shed on that would be helpful. Thanks.

Kit # TDR1500DQ is rated for 8,600 lbs while kit # TDRTT1500 is rated for 7,000 lbs. The difference in fitment is that the DQ won't fit if you have the regular cab and the TT1500 is designed for severe service vehicles (slide-in camper, salt spreader, etc...). Ultimately an air bag kit is the best option for suspension enhancement because you get to control how much support you need. The mixed reviews on the unloaded ride quality of the Timbrens I think has to do with how worn the suspension is of the vehicle it's installed on. If it's brand new suspension then you probably won't feel much but if it has some miles on it then you'll probably feel some sort of difference. Whether it's better quality or not is purely objective as some people have said it actually helps back pain while others claim it makes them uncomfortable. Long story short - go with the air bags if you want the best ride quality.
