I do have an option for you. But I can tell you that the feature you have with the hose coming from the engine through the water heater is no longer available.

Since you are needing to replace your GCH10A-3E water heater, I recommend going with a tankless option like the Furrion RV Tankless Water Heater # FR98SR.

The # FR98SR is a tankless, on-demand water heater that lets you simultaneously wash dishes, do laundry, and take endless hot showers without hot and cold water fluctuations. It produces 144 Gallons of hot water per hour and has internal safety features that automatically activate to protect you, your family, and your RV. It will shut off power if the water temperature exceeds 149 F, cut off the gas if the flame goes out to prevent gas from leaking inside your RV and allows pressure to vent at 87 psi to prevent excess pressure and heat build-up.

I have 1999 Winnebago Ultimate Freedom class A motorhome. Will this work for me as well? If so do you have videos or instructions on how to change from Dometic GCH10A-3E to educate myself. Many Thanks, Jolene

@Jolene Yes, the # FR98SR will work as a replacement for you. I'll link the instructions for you as well so you can get an idea of the install, though we do always recommend these be installed by a professional.

Good afternoon Scott, I wanted to bring to your attention that your recommendation will not work with quite a few Winnebago models. The reason for this is Winnebago usually places the water heater below one of the lower bay doors on either the workhorse or ford chassis. The bay door has a small cut out just for venting the water heater and covers the rest of the original water heater. This venting location is specific “custom” to the Atwood water heater and will not work with the Furrion or other readily available on demand water heaters. Dave A 25 year RV service tech.
