Recommended Tankless Replacement For An Atwood GC6AA-10E RV Water Heater

Hello, I’m looking at tankless options to replace my GC6AA-10E, the Furrion looks like a great unit. However, when I measure the GC6AA-10E it measures 16x12.5, which would leave quite a gap. Please advise?

Hi Wes,

All newer water heater models are transitioning to smaller sizes as the technology gets better so you'll likely have a gap regardless of which unit you choose to go with. There's typically framing around the water heater so you'll just need to add in some 2" x 2" boards to fill in the gap and give the mounting flange of the new unit something to grab onto when mounting. I've attached a video below where Jake had to do this in order to install the # FR93FR.

These units come with 3 different door sizes to cover up the gap so you'll want to measure and see which door is the best fit for your RV:

16" x 16" # FR98SR
16" x 18" # FR48SR
18" x 18" # FR68SR

You'll also want some butyl tape # AL28FJ for the back side of the mounting flanges for both the unit and access door as well as some non-sag sealant # 344270341437-1 to go around the outer edge of the access door.

Is there an issue with this working at high altitudes or in below freezing temps outside?

@Chris The Furrion Tankless Water Heater # FR93FR has been tested in altitudes up to 4,500ft. If you plan on prolonged use in high altitudes Furrion wants you to reach out to them to ensure it will work. Being in temperatures below 39 degrees for a prolonged period would require you to winterize the unit to avoid water freezing in the lines.

@KevinC is there a tankless water heater that you would recommend at High altitudes? We regularly go to Utah where the elevation is 6500.

@Chris For every 1,000' above a 4000' elevation you'll lose about 4% of the unit's BTU rating. Furrion units # FR93FR have the offer up to a 60,000BTU rating, which is the highest out of what we offer. If you contact Furrion they can help you get the correct orifice to keep the gas to air ratio within tolerance.
