Hello, everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today I'm gonna take a look at this Dometic Water Heater Door Conversion Kit for the 6 Gallon Electric and Gas Water Heater. Now, this Conversion Door Kit will fit the Dometic Atwood water heater, part number WH-6GEA, which we do sell separately on our website. It'll include the door, the side brackets, and the mounting hardware. Basically, when you're using that heater in place of the original Atwood Suburban water heater, it has a larger cut-out, so you do need this conversion kit. Since that Atwood Suburban water heater is a larger size, this kit will include the two side brackets that'll help fill in the opening when using a smaller size Dometic Atwood heater.

The door width on this is 18 1/2 inches. Overall height is 14 7/8 inches. The side brackets will add about 2 5/8 inches on each one. So basically, what'll happen is this door will attach to your newer heater, and then these side brackets will fill in the opening. You can see they are a nice glossy black finish.

Now, it is a metal construction. Now, this is in a black finish. They do also sell it in a white finish. We do sell that separately with the brackets. They're on our website.

This is a redesign of the extended door for the Dometic hot water heater, which is used when the Dometic replaces an Atwood heater. (The Dometic is smaller than the Atwood.) The original extended door only has one latch, so in high crosswinds, the wind can get behind the door on the highway and bend/fold it over. This redesign has 2 latches which make the door much more wind-resistant. My new door from etrailer arrived damaged but I was able to straighten it out. Very easy to install. etrailer was very responsive and gave a partial refund to compensate for the damage.

This is a nice kit. Saves a ton of time installing a smaller water heater in a wider hole. The metal sides are nice and strong. I like the number and placement of screw holes.

Unfortunately, it did not fit the exhaust of the Furrion instant water heater I needed to install.

Initially I was worried about whether all my existing wires would correctly line up with the wires on the new unit since my old unit was discontinued. It was perfect. The water intake and outflow on the new unit was aligned differently so I had to get a couple of fittings and crimping tool... Was in the end a jiff to install and worked perfectly. Just remember to always winterize from now on lol. I highly recommend the products I purchased.

We had to replace our 3 year old water heater but the manufacturer changed the exterior dimensions. Our installer could not find this door conversion kit but etrailer.com had the part in stock. This product allowed me to adapt from the now defunct odd 12x16 inch opening to a now standard 12x12 opening. Works great, easy to install and made for a clean finish.
Etrailer was able to deliver this piece in a timely fashion, when one else could. Bravo!

The door can work fine but unfortunately the one I received wouldn’t accept the hinge assembly on the left side. The rolled metal tube was not formed properly and by the time I was able to get the hinge pin in the tube the hinge pin broke.

These black doors are more flimsy than the white and do not fit flush on the RV without a bit of "shaping". Otherwise they are great.

Hello Joe. We do not have anything that would be a direct replacement with Atwood being out of business. I do have 2 different water heaters that I recommend. Great question, Joseph! If you want to stick with something similar to what you already have you would want to go with part # DMC74FR. Make sure to measure the space your original water heater is in just to make sure this water heater will fit. This heater is 12-3/4" tall x 12-3/4" wide x 19-7/8" deep. The direct replacement for your Atwood Gc6aa/10E water heater has been discontinued. I recommend the Atwood RV Water Heater Item # DMC74FR which only requires a 12-3/4" x 12-3/4" cutout. The Water Heater Door Conversion Kit item # DMC24FR (black) is designed for replacing Atwood/Dometic water heaters with a cut-out of 12-1/2"x16-1/2" so it would not completely fill in the gaps of your Atwood G6A-6E water heater. Hey Tom, yes all you would need to install the Dometic water heater you just got would be the Double-Panel On/Off Switch for Dometic Gas / Electric Combination Water Heaters # DMC69MR and the # DMC24FR and you'd be set. You will need the Dometic RV Water Heater # DMC74FR, which runs on electric or propane, and a professional to complete the installation. For a trim kit we have this in Black # DMC24FR and then you also need the Double-Panel On/Off Switch # AT91230.
