Is Brass Metering Adapter Needed w/Replacement Master Cylinder for Model 10/20 Disc Brakes

Updated 03/25/2013 | Published 03/24/2013

Question:

Hi: I have a 1996 LT with Titan/ Dico Model 10 disk brakes. I just ordered and received a new master cyclinder, T4747100. This new cyclinder cannot accept the original brass metering adapter that was placed between the master cyclinder and the brake line going to the caliphers. Its too big. Does the new cyclinder require a brass adapter/metering fitting? or can I screw the brake line from the caliphers directedly into the new master cyclinder? That happens to work just fine by the way. Makes life easy. I would be make the assumption then that they have put disc pressure metering features into the master cyclinder now and that an external metering device is no longer needed?

The difference between a disc brake master cylinder and a drum brake master cylinder is a small check valve that is inside of a drum master cylinder but not present in a disc one. Disc brakes require more pressure than drum brakes so there is no check valve and the line should be connected directly to the back of the master cylinder. You should not need the adapter you have anymore.
