Updated 04/22/2021 | Published 04/21/2021

Question:

Hello. I have a 2020 Ford Expedition Max with HD tow package, and I will be pulling a Malibu 25 LSV tri axle and with 2inch coupler. What WDS would be the best option for me, and what additional parts/accessories do I need? Thanks in advance.

I would be happy to help you find the correct weight distribution system for towing your Malibu 25 LSV on a tri axle trailer with your 2020 Ford Expedition Max with the HD tow package, but you will need to confirm a few things on your trailer to determine the correct system.

First I was unable to find any pictures of the trailer used for your boat, but if you have a pole tongue you will need to use a pull tongue adapter like the Pole-Tongue Adapter for Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution Systems - 14,000 lbs GTW, 1,400 lbs TW # EQ95-01-5950.

Moving on to the weight distribution hitch you will need to know the total tongue weight of your setup which is the tongue weight of your fully loaded and ready to tow trailer plus the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of your Expedition Max. The easiest way to get an accurate tongue weight measurement is with a scale like the # e99044 but there are other ways outlined in the included help article.

Now with that figure it is time to select the correct weight distribution hitch. I really like the Equal-i-zer systems as they are a top of the line hitch, and include built in 4-point sway control to keep your trailer going straight down the highway.

If your total tongue weight is between 600-1000lbs the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution w/ 4-Point Sway Control - No Shank - 10,000 lbs GTW, 1,000 lbs TW # EQ37101ET. You will also need 2" hitch ball # A-90 and shank # FA92-02-4214.

If your total tongue weight is over 1000lbs you will need to step up to the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System w/ 4-Point Sway Control - 14,000 lbs GTW, 1,400 lbs TW # EQ37140ET which works with tongue weights ranging from 1000-1400lbs. This hitch includes a shank so you will just need 2" hitch ball # A-90.

I included videos of the products mentioned for you to take a look at.
